Excitement was in the air of who would take the trophy 2022? until the last hour of the five-day competition.
A team of 15 students from the URDT Girls School made three teams of five students per team: two teams for Secondary and one team for Primary played a series of tactical games. This made them to enter the finals with students by the names of: Nsemere Joy, Atuhuura Mackline, Ninsiima Lucky, Aheebwa Lillian and Abitegeka Dimintiria.

The state minister of gender and culture pronounced the winners: URDT Girls School Secondary section: National Champion! The Primary section: First runner’s up! What a wonderful achievement for the entire team and the school!
Not only did the Girls beat Uganda’s giant schools like Buddo SS, Spring Fields SS, Gombe SS, Buddo junior, Peak Primary, Kampala Academy, they also acquired skills in abstract reasoning, calmness under pressure, creativity and strategic thinking, sportsmanship, time management and team learning.
The school appreciates the Ministry of Education and Sports and Uganda Chess Federation for organising such events that enable students to grow their talents.
