Cervical cancer screening Progress

2466 women in Kagadi district have recently undergone cervical cancer screening, under tell, see & treat cervical cancer project.

This project is being implemented by URDT in partnership with Kagadi general hospital for three years. Being a pilot project, it focuses on preventing cancer of the Cervix. This is a largely preventable disease, but worldwide it is one of the leading causes of death in women.

Therefore, this project wants to test and demonstrate inexpensive and good practices to prevent cervical cancer in women living in the rural communities. The project focuses on at least 18000 women in the age of 18 - 50 years living in Kagadi district.

The renowned Uganda Rural Development and Training Programme (URDT) based in the pilot Kagadi district and Female Cancer Foundation are the key implementing partners.

Speaking during a stakeholder’s annual project review meeting at URDT Centre for Reflection Hall in Kagadi town council on 28th/june/2018, the programs coordinator Lucy Noeline, reported that 6% of women were   found positive, 93% negative and 0.36 % were suspected to have cervical cancer.

Noeline told the stakeholders that the project is progressing and now they are targeting to screen over 6,000 women.

The vice LC5 chairperson Kagadi district John Alibankooha, praised URDT and its partners for the initiating the cancer project and challenged citizens to embrace the project.
