The CEO of URDT explains the functions of the mini-estate to His Highness and the Country Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the UN.

 The Country Representative of FAO, the Representative for the Minister of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF), the Minister of State for Planning, the Minister of State for Bunyoro Affairs, Members of Parliament, Local Government representatives, Civil Society Organisations, beneficiaries of URDT programs, URDT founders and a Board member were amongst the Guest Speakers.

More than 500 members of communities working with URDT, 400+ students, staff, board members, ARU Council members and representatives of development partners and other supporters joined us in celebrating URDT’s 25 years of steady fast support for the development of the Bunyoro region.

The theme of the silver jubilee: celebrating VISIONARY, SYSTEMS THINKING AND INTEGRATED APPROACHES to human and rural development. There was reason to celebrate: irreversible transformation unfolding at all levels in Kibaale District and beyond.

On the same day, the farmers of Kibaale District in partnership with the URDT commissioned the Mini-Estate human food mill, animal feeds and the starch/industrial plants. This project has been made possible with the support from FAO through the MAAIF.

The guests were also introduced to the work of URDT founded institutions which include:

  • African Rural University-the first all women university in the region;
  • URDT Institute-offering an integrated vocational programme;
  • URDT Girls School-offering a visionary leadership programme and a 2-generation education for both the children/students and their parents/guardians;
